Bulgaria Seeks EUR 100 M More to SAPARD Financing

Bulgaria will seek EUR 100 M in addition to the Annual Financing Agreement for 2004 under SAPARD, it emerged Thursday.
The topic will be on the agenda of the meeting of Bulgarian Agriculture Minister Nihat Kabil and Marianne Fischer Boel, the EU commissioner in charge of agriculture, in Brussels next week.
A EUR 67.5 M Annual Financing Agreement for 2004 under the Special Pre-accession Programme for Agriculture and Rural Development (SAPARD) between the European Commission and Bulgaria was signed on Thursday by Finance Minister Milen Velchev and Agriculture and Forestry Minister Nihat Kabil.
Dimitris Kourkoulas, head of the European Commission Delegation to Sofia, attended the signing ceremony at the Ministry of Agriculture.
Co-financing from the national budget comes to EUR 22.5 M, bringing the aggregate financial aid to Bulgarian agriculture producers to EUR 90.6 M.
The commitment is valid until December 31, 2006.
"The grant under SAPARD for 2004 is increased by over EUR 10 M in comparison with 2003," Minister Milen Velchev said.
From the launch of the SAPARD programme in June 2001, a total of 1909 projects worth 1 500 856 000 leva were approved for financing; 982 projects have been completed and 287 522 298 leva have been released in subsidies. |
