Bulgaria's Top Male Tennis Star Wins 1st Round in France Bulgaria's top male tennis player, Grigor Dimitrov, won the first round match of the EUR 64,000 ATP Challenger in Rennes, France.
He defeated the French Laurent Rochette by 1-6, 6-0, 6-4 and gained 8 ATP ranking points.
In the second round on Wednesday, Dimitrov will face the winner of the match between the Canadian Frank Dancevic and the German Matthias Bachinger.
On Monday, the Bulgarian lost one place and fell to the 136th position in the ATP ranking. The reason for the drop was the two-week vacation Dimtirov took after his victory in the ATP Challenger in Bangkok, Thailand.
The 19-year-old Bulgarian has collected 414 points and has participated in nine tennis tournaments since the beginning of the year.
In order to reach the 100th position, Dimitrov will have to gain 151 more points, which are equal to winning two more titles from ATP Challenger tournaments.
This summer, the Bulgarian tennis star won three titles from ITF Futures and ATP Challengers.
